What if Adam didn't sin? What would it be like now?
What a great question. How would things be today if Adam had never sinned? There are two scenarios.
1 - What if Adam didn't sin?
2 - What if neither Adam or Eve didn't sin?
But lets first review and settle the controversy regarding God saying it wasn't good for Adam to be alone and that God would make him a help meet.
To me it is clear that God made Adam in his image and likeness to assure that before he would make a help meet to reproduce, God wanted to be sure that he had a mature and trusting relationship and a bond with Adam to secure him with his purpose of replenishing the earth while continuing to be a good Sheppard and steward. For Adam's dominion of the earth and its inhabitance wheeled great responsibility. Therefore, at a time understood by God it became clear to Adam that he could not reproduce without his own compliment. Hence, God knowing the end from the beginning knew, that in the fullness of time, God said it wasn't good for man to be alone. For as up to that point, God's creation was indeed perfect.
So, back to the questions. Let's look at the 2nd question first as this one is easier.
The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was placed in the Garden as a test of obedience. Therefore, if Adam or Eve never ate from the forbidden tree then it is safe to assume that the tree would have remained in the Garden alongside the tree of life. However, the test of obedience would remain for all who would live. As the population grew there would be an ever-increasing number of people on the earth with all of them being tested with regard to eating the forbidden fruit. With there being no death the odds of no one ever disobeying God would increase dramatically. However, if any of their offspring ate it would not have affected the entire human race. Only them personally and any children they had afterward. They would have aged and died but the obedient would have remained non-degenerate and alive. None the less, the result of neither Adam of Eve or any of their offspring eating the forbidden fruit there would have been a world-wide Garden of Eden for us today!
However, lets look at scenario number 1.
This scenario takes us to the moment when Eve ate. Scripture tells us that she gave some to Adam. However, Scripture reveals that Adam indeed knew what he was doing (1Tim 2:14) and did not act in ignorance as Eve did as she was deceived. However, if at that moment Adam chose not to go along with his wife and instead stand his ground in spite of the pressure, what would have happened?
Thank God we have the remaining Scriptures to help us determine this scenario.
Once Eve ate let's say Adam said, "No." Eve may have explained, "see, I ate and am still alive!" Adam would have said in obedience, "I will do what God requested and trust Him for the results." Upon explaining to God what had occurred God would have said, she is going to have to die as her spirit has already died due to her disobedience and I have no bond to her any longer." Adam would have said, "But I love her so much." God may have responded, "I can make you another woman." Adam may have then said, "But I love her, Lord! If someone must die take me instead." Upon Adam being a willing and sinless sacrifice for Eve God would have sacrificed him in a manner and type of Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac. At Adam's death both Eve and God would have buried him. On the third day God would have raised him from the dead. In doing so God would have restored Eve's Spirit and Adam's sacrifice would have paid the price of redemption not only for Eve but for all their descendants and generations with no death for all eternity.
As a result, there would be no tree of the knowledge of good and evil because like Jesus Christ's sacrifice, Adam's sacrifice would also have cancelled the written code that stood opposed to us nailing it to the cross (Col 2:14). In addition, Adam would not have lost dominion as evidenced in Matt 4 when it is clear Satan captured it upon Adam's falling but, repossessed by Christ upon the redemption of the earth in the book of Revelations (Daniel 7:14, Rev 5) Only the tree of life would have remained for all for ever and ever just as this scene is described in the new heaven and new earth in the book of Revelations 21:12, 22:2. The tree of good and evil and the Mosaic Law are nowhere to be found!
WOW!
